Blankets of Happiness Exhibition
Opening at St Kilda Town Hall
Wed 3rd December 6pm – 8pm

An exhibition of blankets made by communities around Australia, and representing a unique example of personal and communal expression, will open at St Kilda Town Hall on December 3rd.

Blankets of Happiness is part of the Blue Hat Project, and features a wide range of unique blankets through which people of all ages have worked together to communicate something of their inner worlds in a new way.

Organiser Waltraud Reiner says the purpose of Blankets for Happiness, is “to allow people to express the kind of values that promote our happiness. People connect to each other by sharing, giving and creating together. Whoever is watching or contributing will share the joy.”

Capturing the imagination of a wide range of community groups, the project has started to take on a life of its own. From St Kilda, the exhibition will travel around Australia, stopping in regional centres and major cities. Each community that hosts the exhibition will be asked to contribute by creating blankets, to build the exhibition as it travels.

The exhibition’s return to Melbourne in August 2009 will be celebrated with a gala dinner. All blankets will either be auctioned to raise funds to be used by the Blue Hat Project for ventures that involve creativity, connection and sharing, or they will be distributed among homeless and needy people.
